The Phoenix domestic-partner registry for both heterosexual and homosexual couples opened today. It’s not full recognition that many on the gay and lesbian community hope for, but at least it is a start in giving them equal rights and protection under the law with respect to health care and hospitals. Equally heartening is giving protections to straight unmarried couples. Not many showed up but whether that is due to lack of interest or awareness or due to the poor weather of the the past couple days remains to be seen. Perhaps some may be even waiting for any potential hoopla or media coverage to be over before registering.
Baby steps towards no discrimination toward GLBT and unmarried couples in Arizona. It’s better than nothing.
