Hail to the Republic 1: CBO Knocks Obamacare

And Biden still suffers from foot-in-mouth disease.

I must admit finding some amusement in the fact that once more the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) is leveling blow after blow on these insane policies trying to be pushed by the Obama administration and the leftist fingers in Congress. The latest target: Obama’s health care “reform”.

Budget Blow for Health Plan – WSJ.com I trust the non-partisan CBO far more than I do any member of the Administration or the Congress in their assessment of government policies and their effects on the United States. The fact that the CBO’s analysis shows that the current legislation not only fails to contain costs but will actually incur greater costs in just another mark against the so called socialism-disguised-as-reform being pushed down the throats of the American people.

Not unexpectedly this has perturbed a number of Democrats, such as Chuck Schumer,  furious at being countered. They immidiately go in to typical namecalling and dismissiveness while ratcheting up their fear mongering and insistance that  a “crisis” must be averted. Problem is the last “crisis”, the economy, has resulted in a failed stimulus bill, banks making “profits” off tax payer government funded handouts, GM being allowed to skip on it’s financial responsibilities, foreclosures still on the rise, unemployment still rising, and inflation is now starting to hit some areas. All of these things were supposedly to be avoided by the stimulus package and happened anyway. If that’s the result of quick resolution, then we need to slow the government down to a snail’s pace to reasonably and rationally explore genuine solutions that benefit all, not the political elite and the well connected profiting on haphazard legal frameworks at the expense of American workers and business.

But then I don’t really expect much from Congress, when the Vice President makes another foot in mouth comment like this:

“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that’s what I’m telling you.”

What a fool. I’ve said it more times than I care to think but it bears repeating once more: You can’t spend your way to prosperity. Besides the way bankruptcy works in the this nation, those that truly need it can’t get it because they don’t have the money to pay for the legal fees. Those who don’t need it but can pay for it can get it. I discovered that little nugget from a relative who is an accountant working with small businesses that considered bankruptcy and discovered that despite being qualified they could not get it for lack of funds.
