I’m glad Van Jones resigned, but it doesn’t really address my ongoing concern of Presidents using czars to subvert the balance of power established by the Constitution. But I guess that’s something the Constitutional scholars, lawyers, and lawmakers are going to hash out to prevent further erosion of the separations of powers. As to Van Jones himself, I did not really care about much of his activity given I figured as one of Obama’s czars and the MSM’s complete lack of impartiality on any complaints about the man would be ignored by both him and the Administration. Imagine my surprise…
“On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me,” Jones said in his resignation statement. “They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.”
The attacks might be vicious though perhaps more accurately described as concerted and unrelenting and anything injurious but it’s not a smear if its the truth. And unfortunately for Van Jones, his past activities came back upon him due to no ones fault but his own. More likely he was even harmed by organization he formed or participated in that simply are out of touch with overwhelming number of Americans. Jones admitted he wanted a socialist utopia and signed the 9/11 truth petition of his own free will.
You want to be a socialist- fine. Just don’t expect everyone else to want the same thing.
Associate with known advocated of Marxist politics- fine, but don’t whine when you are called a Marxist/socialist/communist/et al.
You want to be a conspiracy theorist- fine. Just don’t expect anyone to take you seriously and expect the criticism when it comes. And don’t ever say you signed something without reading it, especially if you’re a lawyer!
You want to call people assholes- fine, expect to be treated like one yourself.
If Mr Jones truly believes in his positions he should stand and fight. Not whine about “smears” and resign. I have far greater respect for those I may disagree with if they show me they truly believe in their cause than those who instantly run away at the first sign of opposition acting as if they are victims of others rather than the creators of their own downfall.
But no worries for Mr. Jones. He will continue his work in the green movement but he needs to do so without the socio-political agenda of his admitted socialist preference.
